Rafael Peralta

He served the United States with enthusiam and patriotism. In his parents bedroom walls hung only three items:
(1.) A Copy of the United States Constitution
(2.) A Copy of the Bill of Rights
(3.) A Copy of his Boot Camp Graduate Certificate.

Before he set out to Fallujah, Iraq, he wrote to his brother Ricardo (14yrs.old) "Be proud of me ....and be proud of being an American."

For his heroism and selfless sacrifice, his Marine Corps Commandant recommended Marine Sgt. Rafael Peralta for the Medal of Honor. Members of California's congressional delegation, Rep. Duncan Hunter, Senator Diane Feinstein, Senator Barbara Boxer, Rep. Brian B Bilbray, and others, signed a letter to President Bush. (shown at left)

Peralta joined the Marine Corps the day after he received his "Green Card" and became a United States Citizen while in uniform. In Dec. 2004 Congressman Bob Filner introduced legislation to award Sgt. Peralta the Medal of Honor. As of Jan 22, 2008 A Medal of Honor was still awaiting Presidential approval.
